Scientific name: Citrus
Common name: Lime Plant
Lime plant is a slow-growing evergreen shrubs or short trees with dense branches, sometimes bearing small thorns. The leaves are dark glossy green, and the flowers are white, similar to other citrus flowers, borne singly or clustered in the leaf-axils.
The lime fruits are edible, but sour. They are round and small, measuring about 5–7cm in diameter. The rather thick rind eventually ripens to yellow or orange-yellow; internally the rind is tightly bound to the flesh. The yellow-green segments are filled with a number of large seeds, and a small quantity of juice. Limes are also used as garnishes or in cooked dishes. The juice is used as an ingredient in a variety of dishes; it can commonly be found in salad dressings and squeezed over cooked meat or vegetables.
